2024 NAWIC WA Scholarships

Applications for the 2024 NAWIC Scholarships are now open.

Recipients of the NAWIC Scholarship are also strongly encouraged to:

- attend a NAWIC WA Education & Mentoring Committee Meeting (held monthly), to share their experiences, thoughts and suggestions with the group; 
- attend a NAWIC WA Event or seminar during the year the scholarship is awarded; 
- identify opportunities to, and actively promote the scholarship on campus (NAWIC happy to assist the recipient identify or create opportunities); and
- be open to participating in NAWIC School engagement discussions during the year the scholarship is awarded.

NAWIC WA will provide an opportunity for the scholarship recipient to provide input to the NAWIC WA social media channels, in the form of a short post.

ELIGIBILITY

NAWIC Trade Scholarship: Apprentices

Who can apply?

Female identifying Apprentice in a construction related Trade Apprenticeship enrolled at TAFE or equivalent. The Scholarship is designed to support women in all fields of construction.

Eligibility:

To be eligible, you must:

Female Identifying Trades Apprentice
Reside in WA
Be enrolled in a full-time Trade Apprenticeship at TAFE institution or RTO in a construction industry related trade. 
Australian Citizen / Eligibility to work in WA. 
Must not have previously been a recipient of the scholarship.

NAWIC Vacation Work Scholarship: University Students

Who can apply?

Female identifying students studying a course related to the construction industry at University are invited to nominate for the NAWIC Vacation Work Scholarship.

Eligibility:

You must:

be a Female Identifying Student;
reside in Western Australia;
be enrolled full-time in the second or third year of an undergraduate degree program, related to planning, surveying, property, architecture, engineering or construction management at a university;
be an Australian Citizen or have eligibility to work in WA;
have a minimum 5.0 (on a 7-point scale) or 2.5 (on a 4-point scale) GPA' and 
not have previously been a recipient of the scholarship.

* Approximate dates for vacation work are set out.  The applicant must be available during that period.  The vacation work opportunity may not extend for the entire duration of the stated period, and may form only a portion of it. NAWIC will use all reasonable endeavours to facilitate an introduction between the successful applicant and an employer for the purposes of this vacation work opportunity, but the applicant acknowledges and agrees that this component of the scholarship is subject to availability of an appropriate employer.  Further, any arrangement for vacation work will be the subject of a direct agreement between the employer and the applicant – NAWIC’s role is limited to the facilitation of an introduction. This award does not guarantee that the position is a paid vacation work role. NAWIC is not liable for any failure to facilitate the vacation work opportunity, and the applicant is not entitled to any additional compensation in such circumstances”.

2. "What advice or insights would you share with young women who are contemplating a career in the construction industry?" - 200 words or less.
• Clear headshot photo;
• Letter of recommendation from employer or equivalent; and 
• Photo ID.

NAWIC Vacation Work Scholarship: University Students

SCHOLARSHIP

NAWIC Trade Scholarship: Apprentices

What does the scholarship entail?

The chosen Apprentice will be awarded $2,500 cash which can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards education-related expenses and/or general living expenses.

 

NAWIC Vacation Work Scholarship: University Students

What does the scholarship entail?

The chosen students will be awarded $1,000 cash and may receive the opportunity to undertake some Vacation Work with a nominated NAWIC Partner for the 24/25 Summer holiday period.*

The monetary amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards education-related expenses and/or general living expenses.

PROCESS

The Scholarship selection process is as follows:

1. judging panel reviews the submissions against the criteria outlined above; and
2. the winner of the ‘NAWIC WA Scholarship’ will be notified via phone and email by 5 May 2024  and the award announced during the Awards Launch Event in June 2024, as well as via social media channels.
