NAWIC NSW | EMPOWERING WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP

One of the significant challenges in the construction industry is the pervasive underrepresentation of women at all levels. This year, we want to take a different approach to our Submissions Workshop as we continue to look at how we can support change.

Many talented women are reluctant to advance their careers or self-nominate for awards and promotions due to imposter syndrome, difficulty in articulating their achievements, and a cultural narrative that often minimises their contributions.

This results in a cycle where women's contributions are consistently underrecognised, perpetuating the gender gap and the lack of leadership diversity.

The industry must cultivate an environment where women feel confident, respected, and valued. Without such a shift, the construction sector remains unwelcoming and unappealing, which is not only problematic for attracting new talent but also contributes to the "leaky pipeline" phenomenon-where we see significant attrition of women from the industry over time.

This workshop aims to address these challenges by empowering women to assert their achievements and value effectively, fostering a more inclusive and supportive industry culture that encourages retention and growth. In doing so, we not only celebrate the achievements of women in the industry but also elevate them as role models. This benefits not just the individuals involved but enriches the entire sector, paving the way for a more diverse, dynamic and equitable industry.
