Welcome to NAWIC's QLD Chapter
Welcome to the NAWIC Queensland (QLD) Chapter, where the construction industry pulsates with energy, diversity, and the remarkable achievements of women. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Queensland, our NAWIC QLD Chapter embodies the state's dynamic spirit and serves as a platform for women to flourish and make impactful contributions to the construction sector.
The NAWIC QLD Women on Tools (WOT) committee developed the 11% Strategy, aiming for 11% female participation in frontline roles on Queensland state government construction sites. This is a holistic strategy focusing on six key priorities:
1. Attracting and retaining women in apprenticeships and traineeships
2. Developing industry pathways for women in para-professional and professional careers
3. Repositioning women as employees of choice in non-traditional careers
4. Passport to Diversity – changing the industry culture
5. Industry commitment to gender equality and accessibility to the trades
6. Recognising the skills of women already working in the industry
Key achievements include an online Diversity and Inclusion Awareness session, the Male Allies Program, and a Diversity and Inclusion Kit for recruitment. The committee engages with schools, hosts toolbox-style events, and supports government projects for diversity. NAWIC QLD WoT remains dedicated to advocating for change, securing the 11% target, and championing diversity in the construction industry.
