March Breakfast Seminar

NAWIC SA hosted a a networking breakfast seminar on Information Management to Assist Claims and Minimise Disputes.

Karina Ellis and Adam Rosser, both partners of sponsor firm Cosoff Cudmore Knox, presented a most informative morning discussing how all too commonly, parties to construction contracts cause difficulties for themselves in relation to claiming for delay or additional costs, or in defending claims against them, by failing to take simple steps to ensure that information supporting their position is kept. If the information is kept, claims can be settled more favourably and disputes can be minimised or avoided.

Members and guests enjoyed some networking time over breakfast, whilst also taking in a spectacular view of the Adelaide skyline; complete with construction sites and cranes dotting the horizon.

Hansen Yuncken VS1 Office Building Site Visit

NAWIC members were recently hosted by Hansen Yuncken for a site visit of the VS1 Office Building being
developed by the Catholic Church Endowment Society with SA Water as the major tenants, in Victoria Square.

The 10 storey office building is due for completion in late 2008 and has been designed to achieve a six star
rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.  Lengthy consultation with SA Water has resulted in a bespoke
floor plan making the most of the outlook over Victoria Square.

The floor plan allows for all work areas to be within 9 metres of an external window or 6 metres of the large sun
lit atrium area, providing for a healthy and naturally lit work environment.

The design also has numerous innovations to allow for reduced energy use and to ensure recycling is a priority not
only during it's finished life as an office building but also during construction.

NAWIC thanks Hansen Yuncken for sponsoring and hosting this visit.

Ms Lang hopes young women will be inspired and encouraged by the stories on the website which profiles the contribution made by women in the construction industry.

These inspiring stories can be found at www.buildabetterfuture.com.au
