The NAWIC Western Australian Chapter Council for 2012/13 comprises the following members:




Director

Stacey Rimene / Home Group WA

Stacey is the Construction Manager for Home Group WA, a large residential builder, and has over 13 years experience within the residential building sector.

Stacey has recently returned to Perth from Queensland and was actively involved with NAWIC's QLD/NT Chapter as the Vice-President and Membership Chair.

In her position as Director Stacey is looking forward to helping grow and promote NAWIC WA and the role of women in the construction industry.

Hayley McBride

Hayley has over seven years’ experience in the construction industry in both metropolitan and regional locations throughout Western Australia working on new build, fit-out and refurbishment projects as well as commercial property relocations.
 
Having a strong commitment to her field and being a champion of women in the construction industry, Hayley believes that her involvement in NAWIC provides an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences in a supportive environment with like-minded individuals.



Vice President

Miriam D'Souza / Herbert Smith Freehills

Miriam is a Senior Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills, a commercial law firm. Miriam studied law at the University of Western Australia and has been practising law for the last 9 years. Miriam’s main focus is front end construction law and she has been involved in a wide range of major projects in the public and private sectors.

Miriam is delighted to be involved with the WA Chapter of NAWIC as it is a unique organisation that allows women in the construction industry to network and support each other in their pursuits.



Treasurer

Deborah Burrows


Deborah is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with thirteen years’ experience in the construction industry in Australia, Ireland and the UK. Deborah currently works in the Oil and Gas sector.

Deborah is committed to raising the profile of NAWIC in WA.



Secretary

Amber Hong / Thinc

Amber is a project manager at Thinc - a national project management consultancy in the building, resources, infrastructure, and health sectors. Prior to her role as a project manager, she worked as an architect intern in New York and contracts administrator in Perth commercial construction. She has bachelor degrees in architecture, structural engineering, and liberal arts, and a master’s degree in women’s studies from universities in the United States and Japan. She has previously volunteered in other WA building and women-focused organisations, including Habitat for Humanity as a building committee advisor, the International Women’s Development Agency as a fundraiser coordinator, and Angelhands as a finance committee member.

NAWIC is the ideal group to promote and encourage women in construction. Amber is very excited to be part of supporting WA’s evolving landscape of women in construction.



Events Chair

Sharmila Kanagalingam / Cameron Chisholm Nicol Architects

Sharmila is an architectural graduate at Cameron Chisholm Nicol (CCN) Architects. Following her graduation from the Masters of Architecture Program at UNSW (Sydney, NSW) she moved to Perth in 2010 where she joined CCN in a graduate position. Since then Sharmila has worked on a range of projects including mixed-used residential and commercial, healthcare and hospitality. Her involvement ranges from initial schematic design stage through to construction documentation phase.
 
In 2010 Sharmila was awarded the Property Council of Australia’s Young Achiever of the Year Lighthouse Award and went on to become a committee member for the Future Directions Committee where she has gained valuable skills and experience which she has brought with her in her new role as Events Chair for the NAWIC WA Chapter.

Cecilia Camarri

Cecilia is in-house counsel for a large, diversified private group of companies with interests in the mining, exploration, commercial and industrial sectors.

Prior to her current role Cecilia was an Associate with Lavan Legal specialising in both front and back end construction matters. Before embarking on a legal career Cecilia worked for Alcoa World Alumina Australia and Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines (the Super Pit) in various Communications and Community Relations advisory positions.



Membership Chair

Fran Evans / Water Corporation

Fran is a Principal Contracts Consultant at the Water Corporation in the Contracts Section.  Fran manages a team of contract consultants and focuses on quality contracts being established, particularly construction contracts.  Day to day activities also include internal training and mentoring, dispute resolution and continuous internal business improvement.

Fran is a new recruit to NAWIC and is looking forward to promoting awareness of women in construction.



Marketing & Newsletter Chair

Fiona Collin / Herbert Smith Freehills

Fiona is a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills in the Finance, Real Estate and Projects team. Fiona studied law at the University of Western Australia. At Freehills, Fiona’s key areas of practice are environment, planning and hospitality and she assists clients in various sectors to obtain project approvals.
 
Fiona is committed to increasing the profile of NAWIC in WA and assisting to create a supportive and encouraging environment for women in the construction industry.



Education & Mentoring Chair

Yvette Blake / Aquenta Consulting

Yvette is a Quantity Surveyor at Aquenta Consulting within the Building Sector. Yvette studied a bachelor degree in Quantity Surveying at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane before returning to Perth in 2005. She has been working in the construction industry for 15 years which included time in Darwin, Brisbane and the last 8 years in Perth. During this period she has undertaken various tasks as Quantity Surveyor such as preparation of bill of quantities, estimating, cost planning, post contract, variation assessment, tax depreciation and insurance replacement costs, this time also included working with a couple of Perth building companies as a Contract Administrator and a Procurement Manager. Prior to joining NAWIC Yvette was an advisory council member for Mercedes College within the city of Perth and contributed on the development of the school Master Plan and the Serisier Building and Coady Sport Centre.

Yvette is committed to encouraging, developing and promoting women within the construction industry.



Website & Communications Chair

Sara Stone / John Holland Group

Sara is the Environmental Coordinator for the New Children’s Hospital Project in Perth, working for main contractor John Holland Group.  Sara has been working in the construction industry for approximately 8 years and has undertaken various different roles during that time in the areas of design, estimating, site management and contracts management.  However, since combining her personal interest in protecting the environment with her career in construction, she has never looked back!  Sara strongly believes that the perceived conflicts between construction and environmental sustainability are unnecessary and can be overcome provided people are willing to change their mindsets and make compromises.
 
Sara was involved in raising the profile of women in construction and encouraging women into the industry in the UK so she joined NAWIC soon after moving to Perth in 2011.  She is excited and proud to be supporting NAWIC and all that they stand for.
  



Sponsorship Chair

Niamh Cronin / BG&E

Niamh is a Senior Engineer working at Project Management Level with BG&E Consulting Engineers. Niamh is a Chartered Engineer with over 9 years experience working in the area of Civil Engineering and has completed a Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Administration.

Niamh sat on the inaugural NAWIC Ireland Committee and acted as Secretary to the Irish Chapter before relocating to Perth. Niamh was keen to keep her ties with NAWIC and joined the WA Chapter in 2011. NAWIC reflects the changes in the make up of the construction industry over the years and assists to promote careers in the industry for women. She is delighted to be involved in an organisation that offers a forum for all members of the construction industry to learn from each other, make contacts and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere.
