2011 NAWIC Awards for Excellence WinnersWinners of the NAWIC 2011 Excellence Awards are: LEND LEASE CRYSTAL VISION AWARD FOR ADVANCING THE INTERESTS OF WOMEN IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Winner:. Efy Karagiannis, Victorian Managed Insurance Authority. First ever female President of the AIB, Victorian Chapter, Efy is an active member of several Boards and steering committees. JOHN HOLLAND AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AS A BUSINESSWOMAN Winner: Carolyn Viney, Grocon, member of Grocon's Executive Leadership Group who has made a significant difference to the way in which Grocon manages its development work.BAULDERSTONE AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY Winner: Rachel Lowe, Fulton Hogan. For her commitment to not only improving environmental sustainability practices but also educating both the industry and the community. Rachel developed, coordinated and facilitated an environmental training road show for regional local government employees.THIESS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN DELIVERY AND DEVELOPMENT Winner: Diana Quiceno, Metro Trains. Establishing herself as a hands-on project manager, Diana identified and initiated scope changes that enhanced the value of a project that had both severe delivery and budget schedules. ABIGROUP AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN CONSTRUCTION Winner: Dusanka Pupovac, Baulderstone. For her work as Project Manager on the Marysville Rebuilding Advisory Centre. She showed compassion to the client in an environment full of emotion and hardship and assisted in raising funds herself to get the job completed.HICKORY GROUP AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN DESIGN Winner: Rachel Nicholls, Arup. A clear standout for her role in the successful completion of the Springvale Road Rail Grade Separation ahead of time and under budget.AQUENTA CONSULTING AWARD TO AN EMERGING LEADER Joint Winner: Coralie Sutcliffe, Probuild Constructions. As group management accountant, Coralie has contributed to the controlled growth of Probuild through the development and implementation of a suite of management tools. Winner: Vicki Grima, Thiess. Graduating in environmental engineering, Vicki now works on the Brighton Bypass project in Tasmania. This project has considerable heritage and cultural issues due to finding significant aboriginal artefacts once construction work had commenced. RMIT UNIVERSITY AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT BY A PRACTICING TRADESPERSON Winner: Cheryl Uwin, CR Unwin Carpentry. Cheryl's contribution to her trade can be seen in the accolades she has received in the past 12 months: Victorian Carpenter of the Year: National Carpenters Day National Carpenter of the Year: National Carpenters Day Leadership Scholarship: Master Builders Foundation. Winner: Bianca Lucantonia, Warrick Construction. Hard work, a strong work ethic and mature outlook on taining and being trained have been Bianca's drivers helping her to succeed in the male dominated trade of carpentry. BUILDING COMMISSION AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT BY A STUDENT Winner: Elizabeth Walker, Deakin University / Aquenta Consulting. Currently undertaking a double degree in architecture and Construction Management, Elizabeth combines her love of the construction industry and travel to get actively involved with essential projects for local communities in Thailand and Africa.NAWIC congratulates all the nominees and winners for the 2010 Awards of Excellence. For her prolific contribution to advancing sustainability best practice and knowledge.THIESS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN DELIVERY AND DEVELOPMENT Winner: Deborah Cownley (Melbourne Water). Excelled in pulling together political, environmental and social interests to see out the completion of the Sugarloaf Pipeline Project. ABIGROUP AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN CONSTRUCTION Winner: Charlotte Hickey (APM Group). Overcame serious buildability issues to deliver a project meeting the design intent.NAWIC AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN DESIGN Winner: Beatrix Lehnert (Grocon Constructions). As design manager to positively influence the design achievement for Media House through the integration of a variety of designers.RMIT UNIVERSITY AWARD TO A YOUNG ACHIEVER Winner: Jaclyn Gow (Baulderstone). From Undergraduate Site Engineer to a Senior Project Manager, taking on varying responsibilities has allowed her to develop and gain the respect of her peers in the industry and clients.NAWIC AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT BY AN APPRENTICE / TRAINEE Winner: Cheryl Unwin. Impressing the judging panel with her "I can do anything" attitude.NAWIC AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT BY A STUDENT Winner: Meg Herrmann. 2008 WinnersThe 2008 NAWIC for the Victorian and Tasmanian Chapter was held in the Member’s Dining Room at the MCG, on 15 August 2008. 2007 Winners
The NAWIC Awards 2007 for the Victorian and Tasmanian Chapter was held at Zinc at Federation Square a location which celebrates building and design was the perfect setting on a crisp Melbourne evening.
Winners and the nominees of the set a new competition mark for ‘Women in Construction’ and were true role models that were passionate in their Building Industry areas.
A big congratulations to the proud winners for 2007 had all shown determination, commitment and achievement as leaders within in they’re chosen fields and career goals.
It was an evening that celebrated, promoted and raised the profile of women working in construction and created the perfect opportunity for networking and a great night out.
